About: NSSS 2022 will host several scientific sessions, invited interdisciplinary lectures, and plenary lectures.  Candidates are invited to register and submit a scientific abstract for the exhibition.

Challenge:  Space Science Challenge (SSC)

About: The Space Science Challenge is an initiative by Spaceonova with the objective to induce problem-solving skills, design thinking, and a solution-oriented mindset among students in the fields of space technology and exploration.
The challenge is divided into three categories -Rocketry, Satellites, and Space Robotics.
The next SSC will take place in the year 2022.

Challenge:  NSS Space Settlement Contest

Held by: National Space Society 

Application Deadline: February 15, 2022 01:00am PST  (GMT-08)

Fee: The registration fee for the contest is $15, which can be waived under special circumstances.

About: This annual contest is for all students up to 12th grade from anywhere in the world. Individuals, small teams of two to five, and large teams of six to twelve are judged separately.  The eligible age groups range from 7th grade and younger to 12th grade. The grand prize is awarded to the best entry regardless of age.

Challenge: Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Award

Held by: The National Space Society and Baen Books 

Timeline: 12:01 am, U.S. Pacific Time, February 1, 2022.

About: This Short story Award comes with a set of rules to follow :

  • Write a short story of no more than 8,000 words, that shows the near future (no more than about 50-60 years out) of manned space exploration.
  • Expected ideas in the story: Moon bases, Mars colonies, orbital habitats, space elevators, asteroid mining, artificial intelligence, nano-technology, realistic spacecraft, heroics, sacrifice, adventure.

About: It’s a 10-week internship where summer interns will work one-on-one with a scientist from the LPI or the NASA Johnson Space Center on a research project. Interns are selected by the project advisors who look for academic excellence and scientific interest and backgrounds compatible with their specific project needs.
